  • Christmas Bling

Posted on 12/21/2016 10:22 pm by The DeLay

My Mom spent some serious time putting together Christmas Stockings and Tree Skirts for each of her kids:

Click on the pic for a full-sized view.

My stocking…I believe Grandma DeLay (my Dads Mom) made it.

The 2nd from the left is the stocking my mother made for me

The 3rd is a stocking she made for Marti

The 4th is a stocking Grandma DeLay made for Marti

The semi-circle over the hearth is a tree skirt my Mom made.  It’s in the shape of a circle, if you lay it out, but it’s folded in half for the picture.  She put some very serious time into that needle-point project.

The Takes girls (my sister-in-law and her two daughters) made the tree skirt at the bottom.

  • Keppy Christmases Past

Posted on 12/04/2016 4:18 pm by The DeLay

A few resourceful Keppy family members dug up some old 8mm film reels with footage of Keppy Christmases past.  (Yes…it’s spelled Christmases)

Shortened versions of those videos are in this article.  Hopefully, they help remind us of family members that are not with us anymore.  I really enjoyed watching these.  I hope you enjoy them as well.

  • We Gotta Bingo Sweeps Chicago

Posted on 07/24/2016 10:03 pm by The DeLay

This weekend, we went to see “We Gotta Bingo” – Chicago’s hilarious Interactive Dinner Theater Experience.  I’d like to include some pics from their website here, but copyright laws say that’s not really a good idea.  That said, check out their website:  www.wegottabingo.com

This was one of the best shows we’ve been to yet.  It wasn’t super flashy or formal, but that’s kinda what made it awesome.

  • A Tool To Summarize E-mail Headers

Posted on 05/03/2015 12:06 am by jdelay

If you are getting e-mails you don’t want, it can be tough to see where they are coming from.  Spammers (and anyone else) can edit the “from” address and such, to confuse you.

This article shows you a couple of tools that can help you track the source of an e-mail.  I hate spam…this may help.

  • How close is family?

Posted on 12/01/2014 10:03 pm by jdelay

With the holidays coming up, many of us are meeting relatives from our extended family. When they explain how they’re related, some of the terms are confusing. This chart gives you an easy guide.

familytreeIt’s hard enough to know what a great grand uncle is, let a lone what a 2nd cousin might be.  If you throw in a 3rd aunt, twice removed, I have no idea what that is.

But, the picture (chart) below puts it simply.

  • 20 Alarm Clocks To Wake You Up Creatively

Posted on 11/09/2014 2:48 pm by jdelay

By Alvaris Falcon. Filed in Inspiration

We certainly love to sleep – to some of us, sleep is a luxury, to others, it may even be a hobby or a favorite pastime. A common problem for almost everyone you know in this generation would probably be to wake up in time! Be it for work, class, meetings, or the day’s activities, the alarm clock is a must-have item in the bedroom. But if you’re bored with the mundane ringing, hand-sized clocks that you can easily throw out the window to shut up, then you are going to love this list.

  • Camping – RV Rental Tips & Thoughts

Posted on 10/16/2013 1:48 pm by jdelay Comment

We recently went on a camping trip with our family in Iowa.  We really enjoy the lazy/plush version of camping.  Lazy/plush being trips with heaters/air conditioners, microwave ovens, storage space, a shower and so-on.

We used to own our own camper, but sold it because of the expense of owning it, expense of keeping it running & the incredible expense of owning and maintaining a tow vehicle (more on all this later in the article).

    C30_Cruise-America-751704

For our most recent camping adventure, we rented a 30′ RV from Cruise America.  Many folks are a little scared by the thought of renting an RV, assuming that the cost is very high.  I’ll explain the cost for us and a few other details next:

  • A new and improved virus – the rootkit

Posted on 08/25/2013 8:53 pm by jdelay Comment

I’ve been getting a few questions lately about what a “rootkit” is.  A very rough summary of what a root kit is would be to say it is a type of virus that also “cloaks” or hides itself from the Operating system (as well as any program running on the system).  Rootkits are an ever-increasing threat to computer users because, they typically sneak past modern antivirus software and “live” on infected computers for extended periods of time, while causing damage.

It is particularly concerning that a  rootkit will often try to hide from your anti-virus software.  Typically, if your antivirus software cannot find & remove the rootkit, there is no other defense to protect your computer (this is often the case with a rootkit) & it will infect your computer doing whatever damage it is programmed to do, without interruption.
